Description

Handwoven in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from Ethiopian cotton by a fair trade textile workshop.

Named after the Akobo River, which runs through Ethiopia, this pillow cover celebrates one of the country's most skilled weaving traditions. Using the 'pick-up' technique, weavers patiently lift and separate the warp threads by hand to build the pattern row by row. The design is woven into both the front and the back, so it looks finished from every angle.

Every step of its making supports the people behind it. The artisans earn above a living wage and receive annual health care stipends and ongoing training, and some spinners work from home so they can care for their families. The workshop runs on biogas and solar energy with net-zero emissions, treats its wastewater, and was the first facility in Africa to earn OEKO-TEX STeP Level 3 certification for sustainable textile production.

Details 100% Ethiopian cotton. Handwoven using the traditional pick-up technique, with the pattern on both sides. Fully lined for durability, with an invisible zipper closure. Made by a fair trade enterprise in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Sold without a pillow insert.

Care Remove the insert and wash the cover gently in cold water, then line dry to protect the handwoven fibers. Avoid bleach.
