Description
This Kuba Cloth pillow cover is a genuine work of art — each one a completely unique piece, woven from raffia fibers using a traditional technique of the Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The geometric patterns appear to repeat, but no two are ever the same. Originally made as ceremonial skirt fabrics, these tapestries carry the weight of a living craft tradition — their colors ranging from the natural beige of undyed raffia to warm reddish browns, depending on the natural elements used to dye them. Braided knots are added by hand as appliqués, giving each cloth its distinctive texture and depth. Because every piece is selected individually, the one that arrives will be its own quiet, one-of-a-kind object.
