Description
Handwoven in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from Ethiopian cotton by a fair trade textile workshop.
Mechot means cozy and comforting in Amharic, Ethiopia's most widely spoken language, and this throw lives up to its name. A timeless herringbone pattern is woven with precision on a traditional four-harness loom, a technique that builds a thick, heavy blanket with real warmth. It's finished with hand-tied fringe and made to be pulled over you on the couch or layered at the foot of the bed.
Every step of its making supports the people behind it. The artisans earn above a living wage and receive annual health care stipends and ongoing training, and some spinners work from home so they can care for their families. The workshop runs on biogas and solar energy with net-zero emissions, treats its wastewater, and was the first facility in Africa to earn OEKO-TEX STeP Level 3 certification for sustainable textile production.
Details 100% Ethiopian cotton. Handwoven on a traditional four-harness loom in a herringbone pattern, with tied fringe. Thick and heavyweight. Made by a fair trade enterprise in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
