Candle Holder - Upcycled Glass

The votive is made from an upcycled wine bottle set into a hand-carved Mkongo wood base; it is made by artisans in Zanzibar who transform discarded bottles—millions of them end up as waste on the island each year—into objects built to last.

Light a candle inside and the glass glows green. The carved wood base is weighted and stable on any table. Each base is hand-carved individually, so the grain and carving vary slightly from piece to piece. This votive candle holder pairs an upcycled wine bottle with a hand-carved Mkongo wood base. The bottle is olive green glass, four inches tall, made in Zanzibar.

The work provides skills training, education, and employment to people in the community, with particular focus on women artisans who might otherwise have limited access to formal work.
